Pagan Visionary Art

I understand the term "Pagan" very broadly, to mean the polytheistic, nature-based and esoteric spirituality originating in pre-Christian Europe and the Mediterranean. (This geographical region, of course, is the not the only locus of such spiritual currents, but this is the one which informs my work). I regard much of European Renaissance art, esoteric philosophy (alchemy, tarot, etc.), and indeed much of Western culture to the present day, to be a survival of the pagan tradition. I am informed by many strands of this tradition, not being an adherent of any particular school or sect.
For the purpose of my work is not to revive cultural relics, but to explore the possibilities of a contemporary and future nature-based spirituality. References to traditional symbolism are incorporated into images from nature as well as my own visions and dreams. My hope is that these works will be part of a larger evolutionary project of redefining spiritual art for our times.
